Pain in left rib cage are life threatening?

I have a pain in my left rib cage closer to my armpit then hip it is like a stinging pain when i try to lay on that side i am half asleep and i wake up from the pain for a second then i flinch and move to another side but now it has been more constant during the day wondering if this could be anything serious,
