Tooth pain remedies?!?!?

alright so I'm supposed to go in for a root canal next wensday but till then what can I do for pain? I have no crack or tooth decay on the outside the tooth hurts from the inside. It is also causing jaw and ear pain but I was prescribed vicodin but until the medicine kicks in what are some remedies I could use?
