How are road cycling shoes supposed to fit?

I just ordered cycling shoes online. I received them today and when I tried them on they fit well and snug but there is some room in between the end of my toe and the front of the shoe. The shoe like I said fits great and does not move or slip off in any way. Is it ok if there is room in the front ?
